Christ Crucified

Song Information:

I worked for a while as field rep selling Books and Bibles to Christian Retail. It meant a lot of road work, driving around. I was meditating on Paul's statement in 1 Corinthians. Paraphrase: "I came to you with no excellence of speech, knowing one thing, that is Christ and Him crucified" and wrote this song in the car lyric and melody. At least the first verse and chorus. I picked up the guitar quite a bit later and figured out the chords and finished the lyric in a year or so. It's the only song I've ever written that has this kind of beat. I call it Americana Miriachi. We had the tracks down and I had been listening to a lot of Johnny Cash and it clicked in my head that his horn lines from Ring of Fire would fit. I just had to put them in there. Frank and Brad, the rhythm section, both play in a worship band in Irvine and work with Willie Murillo from time to time. He writes arraingements for the band. He is also the Music Director for Brian Setzers Orchestra. I called Willie and emailed him the track and set a date to go up to his home studio. The horns were done in 2 hours in his garage.
