Derek's Lament

Derek's Lament

(Vini Contreas & Derek Moran)
Well I'm so far away from home the first thing I see when I close my eyes
Is O'Connell Street where it bridges across the Liffey River
When I feel I'm alone I set myself under those deep Irish skies
And It's ever so sweet to know that someday my home will be delivered

And It's all about survival yes it's all about God's people
Makin' way down through the rubble of what's right and what's wrong
Yes it's all about revival wash the blood down from the steeples
Yes it's all about the struggle that carries on

It's a battle of hearts with emotional weapons that draw much more than blood
Yes they pierce the soul and leave you empty with too much life to learn
It'll tear you apart yes it can be so frustration to fight the flood
To plug up that hole and stop the waters so that the tide might turn

And It's all about survival yes it's all about God's people
Makin' way down through the rubble of what's right and what's wrong
Yes it's all about revival wash the blood down from the steeples
Yes it's all about the struggle that carries on

You could say it's my calling to travel these roads and to see what I have seen
You win or you lose we all need to choose from the paths that lead to God's ridge
There's just one path to glory the rest are to judgement in this there'll be on inbetween
The O'Connell Street Massacre won't be resolved until all of God's people cross that bridge

And It's all about survival yes it's all about God's people
Makin' way down through the rubble of what's right and what's wrong
Yes it's all about revival wash the blood down from the steeples
Yes it's all about the struggle that carries on

Yes It's all about survival and it's all about God's people
Makin' way down through the rubble of what's right and what's wrong
Yes it's all about revival wash the blood down from the steeples
Yes it's all about the struggle that'll someday be gone . . .
