Before orignial members of Sal-t were even considering music, God had a calling for them. Before they knew it was happening, the Holy Spirit was giving them the gifts to play instruments and write music. Before they had performed at any place, Jesus Christ instructed them to release an album in English and another in Spanish. Before they knew what they were, Sal-t was the signature of the Father.
They were only foolish things that didnt know how to play when God called them. Kathy Rodriguez (at the time 12) was flooded with songs God gave her to use for His glory while playing keys. Karla Rodriguez (18) was struggling with the sudden gift of speech and the gift of playing bass. Gerse Rodriguez (19) was discovering his hidden talent for drums he inherited from his Heavenly Father, and Alex Sparkman(19) was still only arriving at the truth that Jesus is the Son of the living God as he silenced the restless world around him by playing guitar.
That was back ages agoeverything is different now.
The band has grown over the three years theyve been together. When performing, they come assisted with the rest of Sal-t Ministry to run the impacting sound, to operate the gliding lights, and to pray for the band as they give a testimony on the stage by their words and actions.
Its a great feeling to be working, says Kathy, knowing your doing what God planned for your life. Its all I think of doing, pleasing Him by doing what Im called to do. That is the way it is for the other Sal-t members.
Besides playing music, Sal-t participates in other activities that sometimes go unnoticed. They use their God-given talents to create and maintain their website www.sal-t.org, they record and create the arts for their cds, they compose video productions, and they conduct their own sound and their own light show.
Everything we do is for the glory of God, Gerse says . We cant do any of this by ourselves. The Holy Spirit guides us and uses us.
As of August 2006, Sal-t has released four albums. They are currently recording their fifth album in Spanish.
Every cd we do is different, says Gerse. One doesnt sound like the other. This Spanish cd is a big jump from the last Spanish cd we did.
Through their time on stage as much as off stage during their day-to-day activities, Sal-t gives much effort to be real Christians and set an example for their generation.
We are all affecting somebodys life, one way or the other, Karla says. Its either a good thing or a bad thing. Youre either showing what Christ is or youre not.
Sometimes it seems like its not that much of an effort either, says Kathy. Like its a part of you to do what right in Gods eyes. Whats difficult is fighting against your old self in the decisions.
We believe that weve been growing as Christians,Alex says, as we study the Word (of God) which our life literally is based upon.
Sal-ts mission on stage comes down to one thing. It comes down to thisIf in all our career and all our lives we can reach one soul for Gods kingdom, than it was worth it, Karla tells the crowd every night. Our job is to plant the seed. God will take care of the rest.
