Song Information:

An old man, frail in body, strong in mind, respected, wise, daily visits the temple. Waiting faithfully for the fulfillment of the promise God had given years before. Waiting patiently, watching expectantly, anticipating the visit of the child. How long has he been waiting? No one knows, his face only tells a story of quiet assurance. The day was bright, the temple busy. Simeon sat where he always did. His eye catches a young couple, a woman carrying a tiny bundle, a man with the sacrificial offering. Strangers. Simeon quickly stood, forgetting his weak frame. His gaze fixed on the couple who looked different to the others, they stood abounding in radiance unaccustomed to other new parents.Simeon’s heart pounded, “could this be the one”, sheer delight drove him forward, step by step. Joy welled up deep inside and unbridled excitement allowed that joy to spill into his extremities until his whole body smiled. He stood before the young family and took the child in his arms. All inhibitions left him as he cried out, praising God, dancing and singing for joy, transfixed he spoke prophesy over the promised child that lay in his arms.Simeon prayed over the child called Jesus and returned him to his mother Mary.He got down on his knees and worshipped. He prayed “let your servant now die in peace, faithful God you have kept your promise, I have seen your glory, I have seen your salvation given to all peoples, a light to the gentiles and a blessing to Israel”. People stood amazed and confused, few knew of the promise given to Simeon.                       Luke 2, v 25-35 adapted by Sarah Hicks.
