I was reading Ecclesiastes and was struck by the challenge of putting aside very human traits when we do things for God - like the seeking of approval, looking for a "well done" and a "thank you", being people-pleasers so that people like us, wanting recognition and praise for what we've done. Chasing my tail in this way is pointless and of no value to God whatsoever - but can I turn it all away...............? We need to be pretty invisible so that people see God rather than us and that is a huge challenge to our flawed human nature and to our sense of pride. It's a challenge that will always be a tough one, but with God's help it can be done!
