Biography Pre-Jube HistoryÂ
Formed as the 'Papal Nights' in 1986 for two amateur church shows: the song writing group 'The James Band' was formed, with Edward Carnell (staying for six months as singer), Peter Hearn and James Chasteauneuf and his brother Tony. Pat Murray joined them on sax in 1993. Name changes during the six years included 'The Scene', 'Contraband' and 'Thatband', though they existed for the longest period as 'Jamesband', until 1993 having played 51 gigs. Video exists, and also the better quality audio recordings from this period owned by Peter Hearn. After Peter Hearn left, 'Jamesband' dis-banded. James and Tony formed the song writing group 'The Scene' with Steve Thurley and Rob Cocozza from 'Distantly Related'. 20 practises later Rob left and Joseph Saville joined on bass to form the 'Jube' line-up. Before James, Steve, Tony and Joseph were to become 'Jube' on 17.05.95, they produced demos under the name of 'The Scene' from live DAT recordings of 9.10.94. They performed three gigs as 'The Scene' at 'The Inn on the Prom', Worthing on 28.12.94 (photos), 'The Crown and Anchor', Shoreham-by-Sea on 18.03.95 and 'The Wine Lodge' (became 'The Litten Tree' - demolished 2001), Worthing on 19.04.95 (poster). Jube 1995 - 2002 'Jube' were driven by the desire to write and perform their own music. Recording their music also formed a continuous thread during their existence. Finally, in 2001 they were introduced to producer Nigel Gray, through friend and former member of 'Distantly Related' Richard Challinor. They recorded two songs with Nigel but Joseph was absent on bass. Two videos were made to accompany these songs. At this point important commitments led to Joseph, Steve and Tony announcing their retirement from 'Jube' activities and consequently led to the dis-bandment of the song writing band 'Jube'. Gigs: 'Jube' played 11 public gigs (4 in London, 2 in Brighton, 4 in their home town of Worthing and one private party, and made their final public performance opening the 'Grass Rootz' festival in Tunbridge Wells (footage of which was used in a video for their song 'The day'). 27.02.95 'The Robbie', Finsbury Park, London 10.30pm (30 minute set). 09.08.95 'The Wine Lodge' (became 'The Litten Tree' - demolished 2001), Worthing. 12.09.95 'The Robbie', Finsbury Park, London. 22.12.95 'The Wine Lodge' (became 'The Litten Tree' - demolished 2001), Worthing.
