This song came about when one Sunday morning I was reflecting on the cross as the pastor preached and while the communion was taking place as I expressed my praise to God I wrote down these words nails pierced your hands, a spear drove through your side I wrote some other words as well it was like I was writing down a prayer. So after spending some time working with what I had written down I changed a lot of things. I added the rest of the verse that day. I left it aside for a while and one day I was listening to a song by delirious called grace like a river it had similar lines to that of the chorus of my song. I used the idea of mystery fo mysteries to develop the chorus of my song I will probably be done for stealing their lyrics but anyways I wanted to incorporate something fresh something new about the cross and I remembered asking the question why did Jesus die for me of all people and just being lost in awe and being puzzled by how much God loves each of us even when we were still sinners. That sparked the idea of the cross still puzzles me it also is like a reminder not to forget the cross or take it for granted but for the cross to still have that power over your life to be puzzled. ************************ This song I want to encourage people to not forget that (1Co 6:11 ) "such were some of you: ye are washed, ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. " ******************************* that we would not forget what Christ has done for us the verse I feel is what tells of the cross and the chorus is like the reminder. I hope you understand what I mean its the only way I can express the idea to you. The bridge is like a response to that revelation that I hope to impart into people it just says o I love you lord, its why we love you lord and because of calvary.
