Breakfast on the Shore

What a night! What a total waste of time,I have lost, the skills that once were mine. And it seems like there’s no where left to run,My life, gone, like the setting of the sun. “Friends!” came the shout across the sea,Silhouette of a man calling me,And oh how my heart it leapt inside,But the dawn light plays tricks upon the mind. When he said, “Cast your nets on the other side.”Then I knew it was the risen crucified. Peter, do you love me more than these?O Peter, do you love me more than these? Why did he ask so many times? He who knows the heart, knows the mind. Was it that he didn’t trust a traitor,One who had denied him, many times? “Peter, I want you to feed my sheep,O Peter, I want you to feed my lambs.Through such as you my church will grow and grow,But you will follow me in more ways than you know,You will be taken where you do not want to go,And others then will reap where you have sown. Then I knew we wouldn’t see him any more,How I loved that breakfast on the shore.
